OK, should have posted this earlier but I'm never sure where the time goes some days. The winner of the two paranormal ARCs is
Congratulations! I'm sending you an email to let you know you won too, and the books will be going out next week. :)
In other news I've been updating my Wishlists (2009 and 2010), and I was happy to find that Linnea Sinclair's Rebels and Lovers, which has a March 2010 release date has a cover. (Yayyyyy!!!). This is another book in the Dock Five universe, and it focuses on another Guthrie brother who hasn't really been in the picture until now. Here's the blurb from Sinclair's website:
"OUT OF OPTIONS…Devin Guthrie can’t forget Captain Makaiden Griggs even though it’s been two years since she was in his family’s employ. A Guthrie does not fall in love with a mere shuttle pilot. Going against his wealthy family’s wishes isn’t an option—not with the Empire in political upheaval, much of it caused by Devin’s renegade older brother, Admiral Philip Guthrie. The Guthries must solidify their standing—financially, politically and socially—or risk losing it all. But when the Guthrie heir—Devin’s nineteen-year old nephew— goes missing, Devin’s loyalty to his family’s values is put to the test. And suddenly the unthinkable becomes the only option available: Devin must break the rules and risk allying himself with the one woman he could never forget—and was forbidden to love."
YES. More space opera romance please. *claps gleefully*
And this one has been floating about all week, but I'm still going to post it - Carolyn Crane's Mind Games, which is coming out March 2010 as well. She has a great blog called The Thrillionth Page
where she writes about some of the things she loves in books shes
reading. I'm looking forward to her book just based on how much I like
her blog. This is a first book of a planned trilogy, and we won't have
to wait long for the second book, which will come out in September 2010.
So... I have four copies of the above sampler to giveaway, courtesy of Ilona Andrews. It has some AWESOME excerpts from:
- Skinwalker by Faith Hunter
- First in a new urban fantasy series from Faith Hunter (author of Bloodring). From the author's website: "Jane Yellowrock is the last of her kind—a skinwalker of Cherokee descent who can turn into any creature she desires and hunts vampires for a living."
- Available July 7th
- Skin Deep by Mark Del Franco
- Mark Del Franco is the author of the Connor Grey series (starts with Unshapely Things - my review LJ | vox). Skin Deep is the first of a series set in the same world that focuses on Guild agent Laura Blackstone:
"Being an undercover agent has its occupational hazards, but Laura makes it look easy. She uses her magical abilities to create disguises that are skin deep--glamours, or personas, that must never be compromised." - Available July 28th
- Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs
- This is the second of the Mercy Thompson series spin off that features werewolf couple Anna and Charles. Patricia Briggs' website says: "It's set on a slightly earlier time-table than the Mercy books. In this book Bran is going to make the werewolves publicly known. Unfortunately, there are some fairly persuasive beings who aren't real keen on that idea." My review of Alpha and Omega from On the Prowl - LJ | vox. And Cry Wolf - LJ | vox.
- Available August 25th
- Trick of the Light by Rob Thurman
- A new series by the author of the Cal Leandros series. This one features Trixa Iktomi, a Las Vegas bar owner and information dealer who occasionally has to tangle with demons.
- Available September 1st
- On the Edge by Ilona Andrews
- New series by the author of Magic Bites, Magic Burns (LJ | vox )and Magic Strikes (LJ | vox). From the author's website: "Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny)."
- FYI - I was very gleeful reading this excerpt. CANNOT WAIT. Yes, I am a fan.
- Available September 29th
- Elegy Beach by Steven R. Boyett
- This is the sequel to Ariel. Which I read last year and it still haunts me (I really should review it): it all starts with our world when technology suddenly stops, planes fall out of the sky, people are stranded, families are torn apart by sheer distance and no way of communication. Then things from stories; like unicorns and magic just happen. Elegy Beach is set 30 years after Ariel. I recommend this author for suck-you-in reads.
- Author website
- Ariel is being reissued August 25th (good, it was hard-to-find), Elegy Beach will be available November 3rd
- Tainted by Julie Kenner
- New urban fantasy series by the author of the Demon Hunting Soccor Mom series. Features Lily Carlyle, who, in an act of vengeance, manages to get herself killed, and wakes up in a new body with the chance for redemption as an assassin for the Light.
- Available October 27th
Sorry about the lateness of this. Very busy day today!
Winner of the Fire giveaway is SciFiGuy!! :)
Congratulations!!
I'm sending you an email for your mailing address.
For those who still want to enter to win a copy of Fire, there's another contest at REVIEWER X!
This contest is now closed.
This is supposed to be the prequel companion to Graceling, which I haven't read yet.
Here's the blurb:
"It is not a peaceful time in the Dells.
Young King Nash clings to the throne, while rebel lords, in the north and south, build armies to unseat him. War is coming. The mountains and forests are filled with spies and thieves.
This is where Fire lives, a girl whose startling appearance is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her.
Everyone...except Prince Brigan"
It looks good!
This book comes out in October in hardcover, but of course I'm giving an ARC away so you can get your hands on it early! The ARC is a trade paperback.
All you have to do to win it is send an email to janicu[AT]gmail[DOT]com with the title "Fire Giveaway". I will send the book outside the US, so anyone can enter. Not going to wait a week to draw the winner this time! You have till midnight Tuesday EST to enter.
I had a lot of entries for this contest - 51. Random.org picked contestant #10, and that is one of my international entries (cool) - Laura from Book girl of Mur-y-Castell !!
Congratulations Laura! I have your address so I'll be sending you the book soon.
I've read about 80 pages into this ARC. The setting is Victorian London, but there are supernatural creatures mixed in with High Society. The heroine is amusing me - she smacks a vampire with a parasol, and then screams and fakes a faint (somehow landing on a pillow of course). And the hero is both a Lord and a grouchy werewolf!
It. is. AWESOME. You want this book. You do.
Here's the blurb:
"Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she is being rudely attacked by a vampire to whom she has not been properly introduced!
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire, and the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate. With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible.
Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society?
Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing?
Who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?"
The book comes out in October, but you can read it earlier, because I got an extra copy of the ARC at BEA! All you have to do to win it is please send an email to janicu[AT]gmail[DOT]com. I will send the book outside the US, so anyone can enter. I'll draw a name next friday (June 12th).
